County of Maui Department of Public Works (DPW) started clearing large, downed trees on Ehu Road in Piʻiholo on Sunday afternoon after restoring access to Olinda and Piʻiholo roads during Tropical Storm Lala conditions.

Crews reopened Ehu Road — which was not visible in some sections due to the volume of trees and debris — on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 18, 2026.

County Department of Water Supply and state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife assisted DPW with clearing Olinda and the top of Pi’iholo on Sunday, some of the Upcountry areas hardest hit by Lala.

Lala this weekend brought hurricane-force winds -- gusts of nearly 90 mph in some places – along with heavy rain and flooding to Maui County. Upcountry and East Maui areas were impacted with many large, downed trees and floodwaters that toppled power lines and damaged other infrastructure.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to report storm damage to private property through Crisis Track on https://mauirecovers.org. Reports help the County document damage and support recovery efforts.

For help completing a damage assessment, call Maui Emergency Management Agency at (808) 270-7285.
