This will affect all FEMA housing programs, including households in:

• Temporary housing units at the Kilohana group site, microsites, and private sites
• Direct Lease housing units
• Continued Temporary Housing Assistance (CTHA) program

Taking small steps now can help you prepare for your next move.

Use this guide to track your progress, complete required program steps, and prepare for new housing possibilities.

Find and Secure Housing

Finding a place to live before the current housing assistance ends will improve your chances of a smooth transition.

Some things to consider:

• Identify housing options that fit your household's needs.
• Housing options can include an apartment, rental home, 'ohana unit, and shared housing.
• Keep an open mind ... the wider your search area, the more housing options you may find.
• Look out for new local program opportunities.

Your Permanent Housing Plan

You should continue meeting with your Recertification Advisor and working on your permanent housing plan (PHP) in order to remain eligible for assistance.

Some do's and don'ts:

• Do update your PHP if your plans have changed and provide required documentation by the set deadline.
• Do notify your Recertification Advisor if your household size, income, or recovery needs have changed.
• Don't wait or pass on an opportunity for housing offered as this may jeopardize your continued eligibility for assistance.

Before You Move

Once you have identified housing, it's time to get ready for your move.

Some things to remember:

• Ask for a copy of your lease agreement and other documents you sign. Get receipts for deposit and rent payments.
• Confirm your move-in date and schedule start dates for utilities, such as electric, water, or internet services.
• Arrange transportation or moving help. Make a plan for furniture and other large items, medical equipment, pets, and important documents.
• Gather moving boxes and supplies. Start packing items you don't use every day. Properly dispose of or donate unwanted items.
• Complete a postal change of address and notify others as needed, such as employers, schools, medical providers, and financial accounts.
