Hot Kūpuna Nights, hosted by the County of Maui Office of Recovery on Thursday, November 20 at the Royal Lahaina Resort Ballroom, brought together 60 attendees for an uplifting evening of mele, laughter, and community connection. Guided by the beautiful music of Kuʻuipo Kumukahi and the Hawaiian Music Perpetuation Society, the night quickly turned into a lively kanikapila—with help from host Alakaʻi Paleka, who encouraged guests to join in on stage to sing, dance hula, or play ʻukulele and guitar. The energy was incredible, and many kūpuna also visited resource tables featuring the Office of Recovery (OOR), OOR’s Hoʻokumu Hou program with specialists from Hawaiian Council, Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama LTRG, Kelea Foundation, Nā Hoaloha, and PONO Legal. It was a joyful gathering that uplifted spirits and strengthened community ties—leaving everyone asking when the next one will be. Mahalo nui to all who made it such a special evening!
